Acoustical foam in not just for the recording studio. In fact, you may be surprised to find it is some of the places you frequent every day. For example, acoustical foam is found in gymnasiums, auditoriums, movie theatres, and even your favourite restaurant. Any place where there are large open areas and few furnishings or places with hard walls and floors can have the sound quality improved with acoustic foam as an insulator.
If you have ever been in the large, open lobby of a hotel or office building, you know how hard it can be to hear the person next to you. Your heels click so loudly on the floor it makes you want to tiptoe. What about that restaurant where every little noise from the kitchen is magnified because of the bare floors and high ceilings? Even a home without pictures on the wall or carpets on the floor has an echo so loud that sound is distorted and it is difficult to carry on a normal conversation. This is where acoustic foams come into play.
Foam installation kits to reduce echoing
Places where the way sound carried, such as the auditorium, often have walls lined with acoustical foams and soundproof windows. This is how sound is controlled or actually absorbed so that it doesn’t echo back. The foam panels may be creatively displayed on the walls or line the ceilings. These panels come in kits that are varying thickness depending on the application. They have different decorative textures and colours.
What is Mineral Wood?
Mineral wood is a type of synthetic material that is used between floors and in ceilings as an insulator and for soundproofing. It is made of silicon oxide and other metallic oxides. The sheet-like layer that fills the area between floor joists is non-flammable and can provide double or triple the soundproofing of blown fibreglass insulation, depending on the thickness and density of the style used. Such insulators can reduce noise and aid in the effectiveness of acoustical foam.
